14 FebThe Greatest Love of All

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” ~John 15:13

God is love (1 John 4:8)–and the world has never known a greater love.  What makes God–and therefore His love–so utterly amazing and consuming and life-changing?  Well, consider that God chose to love you and me when we were still steeped in sin–with nothing to offer in return.  He looked beyond our faults and saw our need–for Him, for love.  And He responded.  And what a response it was!

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not persish, but have everlasting life.” ~John 3:16

God’s love could easily be summed up in one word: giving.  When He responded to our need for Him and the love He has, He did so by giving His most valuable and precious treasure–His Son, Jesus Christ.  And Jesus would go on to continue the love cycle by giving His life for us in death on the cross.  What a God!  What love!

The love that God gives is perfect love.  It’s unconditional, never-ending, never-failing and will never run out on you.  Human love can be exhausted and run out, but the agape love of God knows no conditions that will cause it to end.  It never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8).  And this is the love God calls His children to love with and live by.

So what is our response to this overwhelming truth?  Simply believe the love!  Believe the love that God has for you.  Meditate on it, rehearse it in your heart and mind, then rest in it–because knowing God’s love means knowing the greatest love of all.
