Nothing Just Happens
There is a reason for everything. That's right EVERYTHING-every good thing and every bad thing. Oftentimes when things occur in our lives we just pass it off to "luck" or general misfortune without looking deeper for the true cause. This, of course, is the easy way out. It's the easy way to explain why someone else was blessed and received their breakthrough and we didn’t or why someone died when they stood on God's Word for their healing and someone else did but lived and was healed.
These can be puzzling and troubling situations when it appears that God came through for someone else but He didn't come through for you. Was it just pure luck that they were healed, blessed, etc.? No. Was it just the devil "being busy" and a streak of misfortune that caused you to suffer a defeat? No. Is it that God loved them more than He loves you? Certainly not! So why do good things happen to some people but bad things happen to others? Well remember this truth: nothing just happens and you're halfway there to your answer.
As I mentioned above, there is a reason for everything. Whenever we face situations in life-good and bad, we should examine ourselves, our attitudes, our words, our thoughts and our actions to determine how we ended up where we are, whether that's on the top or bottom. The Word of God gives clear counsel on how our lives are developed in Galatians 6: 7,8
"Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at. For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal [abundant} life. (Amplified Bible)
The course of our lives is determined by the seeds we sow. And this is not just limited to natural seed that a farmer puts in the ground, for we must get the revelation that everything that we do or say in life is a SEED that will bring us a future harvest of blessings or curses. God is a God of justice, and it wouldn't be fair for Him to bless some and not others. So He put a system in place that everybody can operate in to determine their outcome in life the system of sowing and reaping. So in light of these truths, you must ask yourself in every situation, "Am I sowing to the flesh [the carnal nature] or am I sowing to the Spirit [the higher, godly nature]?" Begin to examine the words that you speak when you face a hard time or crisis because they hold the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21). Examine your attitude. Is it positive or negative? Is it loving or hateful? Is it faithful or fearful? Examine your thoughts--don't let them run away with you. If negative, doubting thoughts come to your mind you must cast them down and speak the Word of God over your mind. This is crucial because Scripture says that as a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7). Finally, examine what you are doing. How are you spending your time? Are you spending more time in front of the television [sowing to the flesh] than you are studying God's Word and praying [sowing to the Spirit]? Also take note of who you spend your time with. While all of these things may seem insignificant, these are the seeds that make up your life.
Take the advice given to us in Haggai 1:
"Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways (your previous and present conduct) and how you have fared” (v. 7 The Amplified Bible).
God says look at your past and present ways and notice how things have worked out. If they worked out good, then continue in the way you're going. But, if you haven't fared so well, just change the seeds that you have been sowing and your life will follow suit. God has given you the awesome privilege of determining your lot in life; don't neglect it by refusing to make the necessary adjustments. For remember: nothing just happens.
