Apprehended for SOMETHING
When a criminal suspect is identified by law enforcement officials, a pursuit of that person ensues. A successful pursuit is one that results in the capture or apprehension of the targeted suspect-for the purpose of dispensing justice.
In like manner, when God identifies you for His kingdom, a pursuit for your life, your heart and your fellowship ensues. God begins to run you down with His goodness and mercy until you can no longer resist Him (Psalm 23: 6; Romans 2:4). You then surrender and are apprehended by Him for His purpose and plan. The apostle Paul knew something of that apprehension and that purpose, as revealed in Philippians 3:12:
"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus".
Paul understood that God had apprehended him FOR SOMETHING!! He understood that when God laid hold of him and his life, it was because God bad a preordained purpose and plan for him and now he was declaring his mission to apprehend, or lay hold of, that for which God had apprehended him. You see, when you are born again by the Spirit of God, it is for you to lay hold of all that God has reserved and prepared for you.
God has apprehended you for something! Something great. Something big. Something very good. God pre-ordained a plan for your life. He preordained a purpose for your life. You're not here by happen stance, and He didn't save you just to have you die and go to heaven.
But to the contrary, He laid hold of you for so much more. Ephesians 2:10 (The Amplified Bible) says that we were born again to do those good works which God planned beforehand for us, taking paths which He prepared ahead of time, that we should walk in them living the GOOD LIFE which he prearranged and made ready for us to live.
So if God went through all of that effort to plan out a good life for you, then you should be as committed to putting in the effort to apprehend or lay hold of all that which God made ready and prepared for you. I hope you're getting the realization that we are to be in pursuit of the perfect will of God for our lives. That will includes His purpose for our vocation (or calling), our family, our finances, our health, our spiritual success, and every other area of our lives.
God has laid hold of you so you can experience all of His goodness, mercy, faithfulness, love, favor, healing, prosperity, wisdom, light, protection, peace, joy, security, guidance and much, much more. And now you must determine, like the apostle Paul, to apprehend that. Determine to lay hold of your divine health. Determine to lay hold to a blessed and godly family. Determine to lay hold to God's calling for your life. Determine to lay hold to divine prosperity. Determine to lay hold to a sound mind. Determine to lay hold of the good life! After all, that was why He laid hold of you.
As you wake up to the revelation that you've been personally pursued and apprehended by God for the express purpose of Him giving you the good life He's already prearranged for you to live, you won't be content with foregoing all that's rightfully yours. Instead, like Paul, you'll go after it and make it your own, just as God went after you and made you His own--for something!
